The New “Sample Sale” and “Outlet”

Hey everyone!  Just so you all know I love a good deal because a good deal means a good buy!  I have also always been a fan of online shopping, so what could I possibly love more than the breakout of online sample sales and outlet stores over the past 11 years? With sites such as Net-a-Porter and PLNDR there is an online sample sale for everyone!

Launched in 2000 Net-a-Porter was the first site of its kind.  After it became a huge hit with fashionistas worldwide, others took note.  Since then a number of sites such as Gilt Groupe, Shop it to Me, and Net-a-Porter’s own The Outnet, fashion lovers no longer have to break the bank to break necks :).

Check these few sites out and join ’em.  With sites updating their inventory everday, you’re bound to find one piece- and price -that you absolutely love!

To Be a Bison or Not to Be? That is the Question.

Hello, good people.  It’s been a long time… *Cue Timberland’s drops from “Try Again” by Aaliyah.*  So, after an “extended vacation” at home during Fall semester, I’m back at HU for Spring semester.  Still, I can’t help but wonder if I’ve made the right decision.  Among my peers there is  a definite college trend; people either stay in California or move far, far away.  Thinking about this makes my head spin because while there are benefits to staying close to home (family, friends, inexpensive tutition), I feel the need to be away at school in order to experience a different culture and to meet new people.  This always drums up questions from friends such as, “Why not move to LA?! How much more cultural can you get?”  and “Is San Francisco not diverse enough for you?”

Throughout my short expanse of life and ever since I had some concept of higher education, I’ve always envisioned going away to school, going to awesome college parties, and immersing myself in all things collegiate.  For a time I thought that I would undoubtedly attend school in my home state.  That all changed when my overachieved person was not accepted into Cal Berkeley.  I had made my options to be “Go to an excellent NorCal school or move away.”  Enter Howard University.

Now, don’t get me wrong; I LOVE my school.  It was all that I thought about ( almost) while I was home for a semester.  I have plenty of goals and aspirations for my college career here in Washington D.C.  Little did I know, researching various schools while at home and even applying to some schools would make me more curious than ever as to what other college experiences I can have.  Thus, I will be applying to USC.  My dad and stepmom will be incredibly excited if I get in; my mom not so much.  She feels as though I shouldn’t do too much school hopping.  While I completely understand her point of view as it has been taxing to the tenth power to move across the country, then back home, then across it again, it could possibly be worth my while to at least consider attending a school with a brighter star than Howard U.  USC has an alumni network that can put many schools to shame, academics that would make some students pull out there hair, and a location that rivals almost any Ivy League, right in the heart of Los Angeles.

What are your thoughts?  Is uncertainty about where you would like to attend school- and whether or not you’ve made the right choice -inevitable?  Or, rather than focusing so much thought and energy on choosing the right school, should I instead focus it on doing the best that I can at the school I currently attend?  Help me out! Gimme your thoughts.

The Election Polls Are…Sizzling.

Boom Boom Boom (loud, scary piano music, lol)!! The election officially begins tomorrow, and the anticipation of every dedicated voter, is HAM (crazy). Everyone seems to be at their most high state, excited and pumped, and ready for…a potential new beginning. “I can feel a new drastic change,” says Felicia Rodriguez, a current USC, Dance major student. “This election is just as…if not as important as the last election.”

I agree. This election can make or break Mr. Obama and his current administration. Due to the fact that if more conservatives are elected to office, there is a HUGE chance that they may pull a low belt to succeed in impeaching Mr. Obama, stopping all of his good process in regaining this country medical care, jobs, and money, to regain what they used to have, a ridiculous amount of fucking POWER. An Exert from USC News, “Ba-rocking the Youth Vote”, recalls a vivid, clear, accurate and even a bit humorous part of Obama’s speech:

“It’s finally on level ground,” Obama said. “The car’s a little banged up. It’s going to have to go to the body shop. It needs a tune up but it’s on level ground, it’s running. We’re in the right direction, we’re ready to move forward and suddenly, we get this tap on our shoulder and look back. And who is it? It’s the Republicans.  And they say we want the keys back. And we’ve got to tell them you can’t have the keys back.”

The crowd screamed.

“You can ride with us, but you’ve got to be in the back seat because you don’t know how to drive,” Obama said. “Ever notice when you want to go forward what do you do? You put your car in D. You want to go back what do you do you put it in R.”

The crowd went wild.

“We want to go forward,” Obama said.

Lol. Mr. Obama is something else! But on that note, TAKE NOTE. Let’s move forward and quickly!!

News Flash: November 2010

Via Another Fashion Book

Happy November, Loves!  This month is one of my favorites: Fall weather is in full effect, there’s a lot of family time what with Thanksgiving and everything, and Black Friday means shopping for hours on end for hella deals!

This November, however, there are even more things to be excited about.  Here they are in order…..

Via FeelingMandy

Weezy is free in t-minus three days!  I know, how cliche of me to be excited about a rapper getting out of jail.  Despite what anyone says, Lil Wayne is a legend in the game.  He’s was on the scene before the age of 16, and runs record labels Young Money/Cash Money Billionaires.   This guy has made strides and has even managed to become relevant in other music genres such as pop and rock.  In other words, displaying some legendary characteristics.

Now, I’m not a huge fan of how she seems to have changed throughout her career thus far from the real, amiable, agilr-next door to an image, but even I can’t deny her presence in fashion and her smash hits.  Rih Rih is dropping a new album on November 16th which I will definitely have to cop.  As long as she stops mentioning the whole Chris Brown saga in interviews. I think we’ve heard enough; she’s becoming quite redundant. *Kanye shrug*  Order the deluxe and couture editions of the forthcoming Loud here.

AHHHHHH! KHSDFHEEF. Yes, I am a Harry Potter nerd, and have been since I bought the first book in paperback in a 7-11 store.  The end of the movie series begins on November 19th when “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” premiers in theatres.  Catch part one of the trailer here on YouTube.  I’ll definitely be needing to pre-order my tickets asap.  Belee dat!

Finally, what we’ve all been waiting for ( in a good way or not) is here.  November 22nd Nicki Minaj drops her debut Album Pink Friday.  As a fan of the mixtapes and other songs of hers, I can honestly say that I have no idea what to expect.  All I know is that she knows her audience.  Really, though, Nicki, what the fuck was going trhough your mind when you recorded Massive Attack? The album may end up to be good, with features from her Young Money homie Drake, Rihanna, and a much buzzed about collabo with Eminem on a song called “Roman’s Revenge”.  Download the track here.  It’s definitely a slapper.  We’ll have to wait and see… *Sigh*

Last, but the complete opposite of least, is the debut of Kanye’s fifth and highly-anticipated album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.  If his album is anything like the G.O.O.D. Friday music he has been putting out every single Friday to get us pumped about the new album, then this album will be incredibly spectacular.  Kanye has been keeping very mum about the album, only to say that it is “hot”.  I’m a die hard Kanye fan.  He is a fashion icon, a hip hop figure, and an inspiration to fans of art.  Somehow, perhaps by luck or by miracle, he manages to remain relevant what with the evolution of his music since the debut of his freshman album College Dropout.  To get in spirit for his release, below is a photo inspired by the man himself.  See y’all at the checkout stand! 😉

I Love Labels: Lanvin for H&M

I absolutely love the designer and other collaborations that H&M offers to its customers. I definitely rock my Fashion Against AIDS H&M x N.E.R.D. tank way too often.  This power company provides a little high-fashion for the rest of us who do not [yet] have Beyonce’s or Rihanna’s bank account. The collection premiers in stores November 23rd aka Black Friday aka “Pink Friday”. The clothing in the other promo pic is equally as fierce and to die for!  I missed the Jimmy Choo collabo, so best believe I’m going to be there… But will you? 🙂

The Royal Jewels of G.O.O.D.

Yup, you saw correctly.  Yeezy got caught up and has some naked pictures on the web.  Hmmm… Well… Hmmm… If you look at the other picture when you click on the link, you’ll see what I mean when I say I’m not quite sure if he’s blessed or not!

Prop 19

Just some background…..

Prop 19 on the California ballot this November would legalize marijuana for residents 21+.  However, it would also give jailtime to those who smoke in front of minors…. Which is ridiculous seeing as thousands of minors smoke. :/  Thoughts? Those with a cannabis card are fine; you youngersters will have to watch your backs though!Via PotPotdotNet

    What Gets You There?

We do not own this image. Nor is it copyrighted to/by "The Thrill" bloggers.

    Thrill (n):

    1. A sudden wave of keen emotion or excitement, sometimes manifested as a tremor or tingling sensation passing through the body.
    2. Something that produces or is capable of producing such a sensation.
    3. A vibration or quivering.

It’s a new era, and the game has changed. No doubt; and because of this, I must confess that I have reached a higher state in my life to be able to verbally “go at the world” with All my opinions. That’s right, giving it to the world Raw (as you horn-dogs would say).

As of 2010, people are expressing themselves to the world like they never have before.  For example, you have your homosexuals who have been strong for quite sometime now, letting it be known that their rights will be recognized, and [their rights] are starting to take full effect :). Then you have the heated topic of sex, on the other hand. Ladies are giving it up for verified Twitter accounts, VIP entrance/treatments in clubs, and to even be facebook buddies with their favorite rapper….how wack. But hey, I won’t hate. I always say, don’t give it up for free. Make it worth wild! …whatever floats your boat. Which leads me to my biggest point of all today!! Yay!

The question of the day is: Is seeking your thrill, in particular, a shameful thing to do?

There are so many different answers that I have in my head for this question, but I will try to keep it as simple as possible; but of course, answers will vary, depending on what exactly gets you off, and whether or not you want to incorporate religiously speaking. I don’t like to base all my decisions on religion due to the fact that it’s too broad. I’d rather look at the “right now, this world” aspect of it. But anyway, let’s face it, EVERYONE has thrills, whether they choose to act upon them or not is solely their independent decision. But seeking your thrill however, is an excellent way to life, in proportions. Too much of anything can be pitiful, and subject to something horrible, later. But let me not get it twisted for all you sick heads out there, I do not condone the behavior of pedophiles, rapist, murderers, etc. That sort of thrill is unlawful (really unlawful, and sad).

I get off on lots of materialistic things; I don’t know why I just do. Like expensive cars, everything about fashion to the simplicity of its art, to the man-made expression of a simple personality. I have to stay in a salon prepping myself for hair, eyebrows, waxing, etc., and a lot more (I could go all day but I don’t want to get too excited in the making of this piece). I get off on pretty things…like pink Prada party invitations, LA sunsets, Malibu beaches, and Houses in the hills that sit right on top of an amazing view. The kind of view that makes you feel like your already on top.

I don’t get off on money, although my motto is to make it, daily. I get off on the things money can buy. But what gets me off like no other is Success. Succeeding in life after you’ve encountered all your haters, and maybe even financial issues is an amazing feeling; and it gets better once you’ve reached bigger goals. I am a walking example of success, and it feels damn good.

So there you have it, Live your Life by all means!! And don’t be ashamed of all your imperfections, instead of trying to change them embrace them for now; and as you get older, they [your thrills] will eventually change, or go away on their own. Express YOU, do YOU, and remember, in your one life to live its ALWAYS ABOUT YOU.

    Welcome to The Thrill!

“The Thrill” will reach people from all walks of life.  We need to throw together high fashion, some hip-hop swagger, alternative flair, and streetwear steez, let ’em cook, and serve up a gourmet blog on a gold platter with diamonds LOL.  We are all searching for the thrill of life.  We as young people search for “The Thrill” through various outlets- art, fashion, music, literature.   Taking a little inspiration from “The Thrill” by Wiz Khalifa,  our blog will essentially be reminiscent of a fast-paced lifestyle, the high life.

    “{Walking on a dream

    How can I explain

    Talking to myself}

    Just travelin’ the world

    {Will I see again}

    Tryin’ different drugs and girls

{We are always running for the thrill of it, thrill of it

Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it

On and on and on we are calling out and out again

Never looking down, I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me}”

THAT’S NOT ALL WE’RE ABOUT, THOUGH!  We are bright, educated, intelligent, informed, and competent.  We don’t want to be dumbed down with only celebrity gossip, pictures, and music videos.  We are also concerned about rising costs of education, health care reform, and tolerance of the LGBTQIQ community.  Everyone knows that Gen Y is the future, so it’s best to be informed about the nation and the world.  Since this is the case, I’m thinking big.  We need a launch like no other.  We tryin’ to be internationaal over here!  I’m thinking mini-launch party. 🙂  Everyone, give us some free plugs, follow  us on Twitter @TheThrillBlog , and hop on Facebook

Are you Ready for the Thrill? 😉
